Liam HARVEY Student of the University of Adelaide, Australia I started studying at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan from September 2018. I have already completed my first exchange semester and just started my second and last semester of exchange. It is not easy to put such a great experience in words but I can say that I have learned a lot during these six months in Japan. To realize my dream of working in Japan in the future, I have been studying Japanese intensively. I have also had the pleasure of building solid friendships and bonds that will last a life time. I think, it has been so far a priceless experience that will shape my future very positively. Living in Japan allows me to apply and practise my Japanese every day, and there are plenty of exciting opportunities all the time. During my winter break, I travelled extensively around Japan, not only with Japanese friends, but also with other exchange students from all around the world. We went to Nikko, Nagano, Osaka and Kyoto. In Kyoto, I had a very memorable experience riding a rental bike from west Kyoto to east Kyoto. I travelled alongside a beautiful river on a nice sunny day and arrived at my destination, Uji. Uji is known for its amazing green tea and temples. I experienced some great tea and desserts made of green tea at one of Uji's most renowned tea houses and tea factories, Fukujuen Uji. I also got to see the very famous 10th-century Buddhist Byōdō-in Temple. For the rest of my exchange period in Japan, I look forward to more days like these and enjoying Japan's hot summer weather.
