Nao OJI Student of Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan Hello. I am Nao Oji, an exchange student from Japan studying at La Trobe University. It is a great experience staying in Australia as an exchange student. It has been a month since I arrived in Australia and I love being here so far. Everything is different from my home so I feel I can grow up through great experiences in Australia. It is my first time living on my own. Sometimes, I miss home and become homesick but I have amazing friends who help me and care about me. Therefore I can learn to be more independent through living by myself and living with other people. The learning style is very different compared to my home university. They have a small number of students in the class so they are more active and have a lot of time for discussions or presentations. Also, they require studying outside of the class. For example, I have to go through many readings and powerpoint materials before class to prepare for discussions. It means I spent much more time studying than I did at my home university. It is interesting to discuss things with Australian students because they have different points of view. The people I have met in Australia are very nice. Australia is a multicultural country so they have an understanding of other cultures. Also, as I can come into contact with many people from different cultures, it helps me to gain knowledge about other cultures and develop a wider perspective and a more diversified sense of values.
