Izumi ARAMAKI Student of Waseda University, Japan Studying overseas had been my dream for a long time. I still remember how happy I was when I knew that I could go to study at the University of Melbourne. Now, three months have passed since I came back to Japan, I am still glad that I applied for an exchange programme and could take the chance. My home university is located in Tokyo. Living in Tokyo has inspired me a lot and I think I will never get tired of a life here. Staying in Melbourne seemed not to be exciting, but it made me reconsider the essence of quality of life. What I like the most about Melbourne is its laid-back style. People in Melbourne are friendly and approachable. They love arts and nature. There are so many large parks instead of skyscrapers. My most favourite time in Melbourne was the moment when I sat in a quiet park and thought about nothing. It seemed that time was going slowly and peacefully. Having experienced those relaxing moments, I became fascinated with the lifestyle in Melbourne. To be honest, the studies were tough. The interactive lectures and active discussions were totally new for me. Almost every day, I felt disappointed about my English skills. Nevertheless, because of that, I could keep improving my English. That frustration feeling enabled me to enhance my mental strength. To those who have any concern about studying abroad, I would like to say aloud that it will never be a waste of time. Wherever you go, studying abroad will be a special experience. It is a good time to meet new friends, experience new cultures and, to be alone with your inner self. If you wonder which place to go, I would definitely recommend Melbourne. Finally, I would like to thank my family and friends who always supported me, and the CK Group and the Australian Government for giving me such a special opportunity. Without the scholarship, I could not enjoy my time in Melbourne as much as I did.
