AO IEONG Pui San Student of University of Macau, Macau I am currently doing an exchange at Victoria University. I had heard that Australian culture is similar to British culture as Australia was previously under UK rule. Nonetheless, after studying and living in Melbourne for two months, I have found just a few similarities between the two, such as food and sport preferences. I think Aussie lifestyle is carefree and they are more casual. Although I have not yet experienced every aspect of Australian culture, this exchange programme has given me a chance to explore more. It is better to see something once, than to hear about it a thousand times. The exchange has taken me out of my comfort zone. I feel more independent and confident than before. What's more, I am better able to handle relationships with people from different cultures now. I am here all on my own, but I have made a lot of friends here with other exchange students. It really makes the bond among a group of people so much stronger when we are experiencing something completely new together. Moreover, the education system of Victoria University comprises both lecture and tutorial. The lectures enrich my knowledge of the subject, and the tutorials inspire me to learn and think from multiple perspectives, also broaden my international horizon. When I try something new, it is the coolest feeling in the world. Each experience is unique and allows me to learn about myself more. The knowledge and skills I derived from this exchange programme helped me to prepare for my future, and also enrich my life. Finally, I really appreciate receiving the Endeavour Cheung Kong Student Exchange Programme (ECKSEP) grant, so that I can have an opportunity to explore other areas in Australia without the increased financial burden on my family during the exchange period.
