Anna ROESLER Student of the University of Adelaide, Australia My post-doctoral assignment was based at the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition in Tokyo, Japan. My first day started with getting to know other researchers in the institute, followed by what became a daily highlight – having Japanese Bento box meal (delicious food in lots of small boxes)! My programme offered me an insight into a culture of details, respect and kindness. Each day I was greeted by friendly faces and thanked for my work before I left the Institute. The Health Institute lived up to its name. They provided with lunch time tennis, and it was fantastic! My research was challenging! I was introduced to system dynamic thinking. I worked with my supervisor to develop a system related to mindful eating that showed how the modification of certain factors, such as yoga and other exercises, can impact mindful eating. I really enjoyed working on the project and the challenges. I was glad to be able to share my research findings with the Institute, and a publication was under review currently. In addition to my project, I spent many weekends playing ultimate frisbee with Japanese frisbee teams. I quickly learned how committed the team members were as we trained from 9 to 4 both days of the weekends, I really appreciated their grit. I had a fantastic time and I am very appreciative of the Fellowship Award as I have established long lasting contacts that I can continue to collaborate with on future projects.
