James NORTON Student of The University of Queensland, Australia The Second Semester of my 2016 was spent studying abroad in Hong Kong at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This was a priceless life experience. During my time abroad, I was exposed to an entirely new culture and found adapting to the new surroundings both challenging and rewarding. It was enlightening to be immersed in such a diverse culture and the experience taught me first hand lessons in forging new friendships and connections. In Hong Kong I felt privileged to be invited to lunch with Mrs Wendy Tong Barnes, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and Ms Jessie Li, Senior Corporate Affairs Officer of CK Infrastructure Holdings Limited respectively. Although a small gesture, I have ever since been so grateful to these two ladies for their hospitality as they made me feel so at home when in reality I was quite far away. We spoke about friends, family, the company and Hong Kong, and I promised to pay the bill next time. I will always remember those two for their warmth and kindness. In addition to delicious food, I explored China, Japan and Thailand and enjoyed the unique experiences each country offers. This, along with so much great experiences in Hong Kong certainly would not have been possible without the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards. There was so much to Hong Kong that I did not expect: the perfect beaches, the lush mountains and the complex cultural environment. I urge any student, particularly Australian students, to seriously consider Hong Kong as a location for exchange. I honestly recommend it for anyone who gets the chance, and I promise you will meet friends that will last a lifetime.
