Daniel MATHERS Student of The University of Newcastle, Australia I completed a semester exchange over semester one 2015 at the City University of Hong Kong. I had a fantastic experience learning about Chinese culture, travelling and making lifelong friends with people around the world. When I first arrived I was directed to my dorm room and met my housemate, he was a local student studying finance and we quickly became friends. There were activities organized for us by the exchange student club which were a great way to meet new friends and do some fun activities. We went for a hike where we saw wild monkeys and amazing scenery. Also there was a Chinese New Year party organized where we could try some traditional Chinese food, dress up in traditional robes and watch the fireworks. During class I made a group of friends with some local students. This was very beneficial as it was very interesting to learn about the lives of people in Hong Kong. I spent some time at weekends at their houses and it was fun as well as interesting. I also got the chance to do some travelling over the semester. I met up with a friend from Australia who was in Fuzhou, China and also got to visit Shanghai and Taiwan with some exchange mates. When it came time to leave I was a little sad, but I missed my family and friends back home. That being said, I will always cherish my time in Hong Kong and would recommend exchange to anyone thinking of going.
