Qimu DING Student of Beijing Institute of Technology, China Difficult as it may be, I exchanged to Sydney in my last year to see a broader world. Of course, the first thing I would talk about is the courses I took. During my study in UTS, I realized how attractive it is to be exposed to a totally different culture. This experience convinced me that I was well prepared to study in an unfamiliar atmosphere and would also get me better prepared for my masters degree in America. Moreover, the project I have done in UTS, such as the line spacing determination of a mobile phone screen made me learn that projects abroad focus more on the practical use rather than the concepts. It makes me think over the spirit of engineering. I begin to believe that the profound success of an Engineer is to progress products convenient enough to even serve the most awkward people. Except for different teaching methods, I met many unexpected and amazing people here. Tim, the guy who is doing double degree and also a full time job; Tommy, the boy who has already conquered almost all the hiking routes around Sydney; and also Lin, the gorgeous lady I met in the volunteering program who made me consider the essence of going abroad. I found it worth my while to know them. Without the inspiration of them, I wouldn't have snorkeled, dived and traveled along the east coast in Australia in 18 days by myself. During the travel, even with face and neck sunburnt, I feel a sense of achievement. Even though it is hard to claim the measure of the life, they helped me to learn how to open my heart and bring some joy to one another's lives. It is hard to explain what exactly I have learned during my exchange year, however, there is one thing for sure: It makes me a better person.
