Eugene Wan The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong My 5-month exchange at the University of New South
Wales, Sydney w I still remember what happened to me on the first day of my arrival – when I stepped out of Sydney International Airport, it was raining and very cold. Seeing how I struggled with my luggage and how confused I looked at that time, an old lady suddenly came to me and asked if I needed any help. She even gave me instructions on how to get to my residential hall. Thanks to the people in Sydney that were so friendly and helpful. I was really touched. During the exchange period, I got the chance to meet friends from different parts of the world. Some of them were locals, whilst most others were exchange students, like me. They were from France, Germany, the United States and even Africa. By getting involved in such a multicultural environment, I have learned more about different cultures. We chatted, we shared, and we played with each other. It was really inspiring to see how different cultures view things from different perspectives. Thanks to this exchange programme, I have now got friends all over the world. Australia is a beautiful country. It has blue sky, green grasslands, and clean air. All these are luxuries that we can hardly see in Hong Kong. Even though Sydney is a prosperous city, the government has still done a great job in environmental protection. I simply love the beauty of the natural scenery! In short, the exchange experience was an unforgettable one. I gained a lot from the Programme. I have found myself becoming more outgoing and active. I have also become much more independent than before – I had to do housekeeping, cooking and all kinds of housework on my own. This was a big challenge to me, but I managed to overcome it! Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship Programme, thank you!
