Ki Ki Leung The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Studying abroad in a country with a different culture, learning environment and lifestyle adds significant credit to one’s academic dimension and personal growth. My exchange year in Perth, Australia undoubtedly is key a milestone in my life. I wish to express my gratitude towards the Cheung Kong Group for awarding me the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship and giving me the opportunity to have this invaluable exchange experience. Studying in a university with a different approach to
education has greatly contributed to my flexibility in
learning. Studying at the University of Western Australia
has required independent research and exploration
of resources. Furthermore, as a music major student,
experiencing different cultures and encountering
different pedagogical methods are very important
to my self-cultivation and future career insight. This overseas experience has not only contributed to my academic development but also my personal growth. Broadening horizons by going on exchange can be as trivial and conventional as it sounds, but it is undeniably true in many aspects. This year, I have come across many people from different walks of life – from different countries, with different religious views and perspectives. I have learnt to appreciate the divergence between people and have even been enlightened by other cultures’ ways of dealing with problems. More importantly, I was encouraged to make friends with people from around the world. This has enabled me to learn about different parts of the world with a new perspective. I have to thank again the Cheung Kong Group for giving me this precious year. I believe that this exchange experience will benefit my whole life.
