Chan Chi Yeung Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong During my stay in Perth, I had the valuable opportunity to study abroad and experience a different kind of life. Australia is an English-speaking country. When I arrived at Perth International Airport, I had to change to speaking in English. Thanks to the Curtin Airport Reception Service, for sending me directly to the Curtin University of Technology and providing me with some useful information on living and studying in Perth. During those 20 weeks of my exchange, I had to use English to communicate with local people and international students. It thus provided many opportunities to practice and improve my English in all aspects. I had roommates from three different countries: Malaysia, Mauritius and Taiwan. As we all came from Asian countries, English was our common language. We always sat together at night to share the history, culture, food, politics and social situation of our own countries. The campus of the Curtin University of Technology is much larger than the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Every faculty or department has several buildings. Students often sat on the lawn while reading and eating. They all enjoy their university life and their study pressure is not high. The city of Perth is very nice and the atmosphere is relaxed. There were many types of museums to teach me about the culture and history of Western Australia.
