Zhibin Liu Australian National University, Australia
The Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship enabled me to live in Tianjin and Beijing for six months in 2005 and provided me a rare opportunity to carry out my research about the people of the country. I was able to meet with local scholars in relevant fields and discuss wide ranging issues relating to my study in specific and to the two countries in general. I was also able to meet business people from both Australia and China and collect essential data for my research. In fact, it was extremely beneficial by simply mixing with local people daily and learning about their culture and social behaviours that are critical to my research topic (negotiation with the PRC Chinese). The trip also generated a great deal of interest about Australia from local Chinese. They learned about Australian education and education systems as well as Australian life styles through me. Many of them want to study in Australia and some are already here. Some others are interested in doing collaborating research with Australian scholars and some want to do business with Australia. I recommend the award programme highly. It provides worthwhile benefits to award holders and their Australian institutions, and host universities as well as the two countries (Australia and China).
